Heroes è una delle composizioni più celebri di Bowie, scritta in un periodo dove il Duca Bianco era sprofondato in una tremenda crisi. Viveva a Los Angeles distrutto dalla cocaina e dall’alcol, addirittura anche i suoi amici Elton John e John Lennon pensavano che fosse prossimo alla morte, fino a quando David si trasferì a Berlino, e lì iniziò la sua risalita professionale e umana. “Heroes” è il grido disperato dell’ultimo romantico sulla terra: in un mondo ormai distrutto David cerca di implorare la sua ragazza a non andarsene e a non scegliere strade più semplici, perché come dice lui nella canzone: «We can be heroes, just for one day» (Possiamo essere eroi, solo per un giorno).
